More than 2,000 robots are taking part in the Beijing Robot Games, where humanoid machines compete in races, play football and perform tai chi exercises. Euronews reports on the competition.

Winner of the 400-metre race

At the National Speed Skating Oval on Sunday, the Tiangong Omni-04 robot won the 400-metre race among smaller robots, covering the distance in 45.66 seconds. Some other machines fell or stopped during the starts without reaching the finish line.

Testing movement and stability

The five-day competition is intended to test skills that robots could potentially need in real-world conditions. Engineers cool the machines down after races and monitor their walking, running and performance of physical tasks.

During the tai chi stage, robots attempt to perform kicks and aerial spins. According to engineers, such tests make it possible to assess the machines' stability, the power of their joints and the overall performance of the systems.
