In Seoul, iPhone 18 Pro buyers decide whether to wait for Duo — Korea Herald
In Seoul, South Korea, on the first day of sales of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, shoppers at the Apple Myeongdong store discussed whether to buy the new models now or wait for the foldable iPhone Duo, which is scheduled to debut next month. According to the Korea Herald, Apple’s first foldable iPhone was absent from the display tables but was already influencing some visitors’ decisions.
Queue at the start of sales
The store doors opened at 8:00 a.m., and employees welcomed the first customers with applause. One visitor arrived at the store at 7:00 p.m. the previous day and spent about 13 hours in line to be the first to enter. By 7:30 a.m., around 150 people had gathered outside Apple Myeongdong.
Apple allowed only customers who had placed pre-orders to receive devices on launch day. During the morning, around 300 shoppers came to the store to pick up their reserved devices. Other visitors came to inspect the new phones in person.
Doubts about the foldable iPhone
A buyer of the iPhone 18 Pro in his 30s said he had considered waiting for the iPhone Duo. However, he decided that the size of the unfolded device was close to that of the iPhone Pro Max, so he saw no need to postpone the purchase. The man also expressed concerns about the durability of Apple’s first foldable smartphone and called the Pro line a more proven option.

Another visitor, who works in video production, said he was interested in the camera with a variable aperture. In his view, it could deliver a more natural result than software background blur.
Prices and buyers’ choices
In South Korea, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at 1.99 million won, or about $1,440, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at 2.19 million won. Both models are available in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy.
Some visitors explained their choices by their familiarity with certain devices and by design. A woman who had previously used a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip said she returned to the iPhone because of its design. Another visitor, a longtime Galaxy smartphone user, came to buy an iPhone for his son but does not plan to change his own device.
