China's largest training center for humanoid robots is set to open in Shanghai
China’s first large-scale training center for various types of humanoid robots is set to open in Shanghai as early as July. The robots will perform household and industrial tasks, and the data collected will be used to develop artificial intelligence systems and accelerate machine learning.
This is reported by Interesting Engineering.
The project is being implemented in the Zhangjiang district as part of the National and Local Innovation Center for Humanoid Robotics. The complex will cover more than 5,000 square meters, and the site will host over 100 types of robots from more than ten companies.
According to Chinese media, this will be the country’s largest center of its kind in terms of the variety of robots.
The center will create conditions that closely resemble real-life and industrial settings. Robots will be trained to perform household chores, industrial operations, sorting, food preparation, and other tasks.
During training, the system will accumulate large datasets that will be used to develop artificial intelligence models for manufacturing, medicine, the service sector, and agriculture.
The center’s CEO, Xu Bin, stated that the project is intended to serve as the foundational infrastructure for the entire humanoid robotics industry.
“The center will help solve problems related to technology sharing, ecosystem creation, and the deployment of robots in various fields,” he noted.
According to Xu Bin, robots from different manufacturers currently have varying designs, motor systems, and numbers of joints, which often makes their training data incompatible. The new platform is intended to improve data exchange between different robotic systems.
Previously, in December 2025, China had already opened a center in Beijing for training humanoid robots, where the machines learned to work in manufacturing, perform household chores, and sort packages.
A similar project is being implemented in Germany. The Technical University of Munich, in collaboration with NEURA Robotics, is building the TUM RoboGym center near Munich Airport.
The complex, covering an area of about 2,300 square meters, will be used to train robots to perform precise everyday and industrial tasks under human supervision.
Researchers emphasize that the development of humanoid robots requires large amounts of real-world data, as such systems cannot learn solely from information on the internet, unlike language models of artificial intelligence.
In Israel, humanoid robots, robot dogs, and exoskeletons will soon go on sale. The "Mahsanei Hashmal" retail chain has announced the launch of sales for the WANDA domestic humanoid robot from the Chinese company UNIX AI.
