Ukraine has begun developing its own satellite reconnaissance constellation — FT
Ukraine is working to establish its own satellite reconnaissance constellation in an effort to reduce its reliance on foreign partners for intelligence data.
This was reported by the Financial Times, citing Denis Shterman, co-founder and chief designer of Fire Point.
According to him, the United States remained the primary supplier of intelligence to the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the war, but over the past year, European countries have begun to play an increasingly significant role in this process.
At the same time, Ukraine, according to Stilerman, is striving for greater autonomy in the field of space intelligence and security, which is why it has begun developing its own satellite system.
As the Fire Point representative noted, the company has already launched two satellites this year, though it did not specify which country facilitated their launch into orbit.
Fire Point, known as a manufacturer of drones and missiles, including the “Flamingo” complex, plans to significantly expand its space program. According to Stilerman, the company intends to launch several dozen more satellites in 2027.
It is expected that the deployment of such a constellation will allow Ukraine to reduce its dependence on the U.S. and Western technology companies in the field of intelligence data collection and analysis.
The development of its own space capabilities is seen as one of the key elements in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid the ongoing war with Russia.
