xAI Expands Infrastructure to Increase Training Capacity for AI Models
xAI has announced the acquisition of an additional facility as part of a broader effort to expand its computing infrastructure. The project aims to significantly increase the company’s training capacity for artificial intelligence models, moving toward a total compute footprint approaching two gigawatts.
The expansion is linked to the development of a large-scale supercomputer cluster positioned as one of the most powerful in the world. At the same time, xAI plans to grow the number of graphics processing units used to train next-generation models.
The newly purchased building is expected to be converted into a data center over the coming years, with infrastructure located close to major energy sources to support stable and continuous operation of high-intensity computing systems.
The rapid growth of AI infrastructure has also sparked environmental debate, as large data centers consume substantial amounts of electricity. Meanwhile, xAI views scaling its capabilities as a strategic step in strengthening its position in the global AI technology race.
