Xiaomi unveils new version of Xring O3 processor
Chinese company Xiaomi has unveiled a new version of its proprietary Xring O3 processor for smartphones. The company expects that greater control over key components will help strengthen the supply chain and reduce dependence on external chip suppliers.
As Channel NewsAsia reports, citing Reuters, the new processor is to be manufactured by Taiwan’s TSMC using a 3-nanometer process technology. Two people familiar with the companies’ plans said this. Xiaomi and TSMC did not immediately comment on the manufacturer, production technology, or planned supply volumes.
Chip for a foldable flagship
According to one source, Xring O3 is planned for use in Xiaomi’s future flagship foldable smartphone. The target shipment volume for this device is between 200,000 and 300,000 units.

Smartphone processors, or systems on a chip, combine computing and graphics functions, artificial intelligence processing, and image-processing functions in a single component.
Development of proprietary processors
Xring O3 was unveiled after the launch of Xiaomi’s first proprietary smartphone processor, Xring O1. The company is advancing its own chip development amid competition in the premium smartphone segment, where Apple, Samsung Electronics, and Huawei also develop proprietary processors.
During a conference call on financial results last week, Xiaomi said that cumulative shipments of devices based on Xring O1 had exceeded 1 million units since launch. Such devices include smartphones, tablets, and watches. According to sources, Xiaomi has sold about 150,000 smartphones with Xring O1 since May 2025.
