Xiaomi opens pre-orders for foldable 18 Fold in China
Xiaomi has opened pre-orders in China for the foldable 18 Fold smartphone, priced from 10,999 yuan, or about $1,600. Official sales of the model are expected to begin on September 10. The company has not yet confirmed whether the device will be available outside the Chinese market.
As The Verge reports, a journalist from the publication examined the smartphone behind closed doors during the IFA exhibition. This is Xiaomi's first book-style foldable-screen model since the Mix Fold 4, introduced in 2024.
Wide displays and body format
The 18 Fold features a 7.58-inch inner OLED display and a 5.38-inch outer OLED display. Both have an aspect ratio of about 1.4:1, while the stated peak brightness reaches 4,000 nits. When folded, the smartphone is shorter and wider than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, and The Verge considers the outer screen convenient for one-handed use.

The device is available in black, white, and red. Xiaomi will also release a pink ceramic special edition limited to 1,500 units. At the same time, the 18 Fold is slightly thicker and heavier than the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while Xiaomi has not announced a water and dust resistance rating. The publication also noted a more noticeable crease on the inner screen.
Battery, chip, and cameras
The smartphone became Xiaomi's first model with its in-house Xring O3 chipset, which, according to the company, should provide performance at the Snapdragon 8 Elite level. The platform includes an Arm Mali G2-Ultra NX graphics processor with support for Android mobile graphics acceleration similar in principle to DLSS.
Xiaomi equipped the 18 Fold with a 6,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery. It supports 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The main camera has a 200MP resolution and a 1/1.56-inch-format sensor. The triple camera system also includes a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3.5x zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera. The camera system was developed as part of Xiaomi's partnership with Leica.
