The Ukrainian Armed Forces are introducing additional payments: 100,000 hryvnias for each Russian soldier taken prisoner and 15,000 hryvnias for each enemy neutralized in close combat. The Ministry of Defense explains that this is intended to both incentivize and compensate for the risks of combat operations.

Servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive additional monetary rewards for capturing Russian soldiers, as well as for confirmed elimination of the enemy during small-arms combat, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense.

The amount is 100,000 hryvnias for each captured Russian soldier and 15,000 hryvnias for an enemy eliminated in close combat, which, according to ministry officials, is intended to reflect the level of risk faced by soldiers on the front lines. “When a person engages in close combat, it is the greatest risk, and it must be duly appreciated for the contribution they make to the war. Captured Russians are also important, as they serve as a bargaining chip for the return of our soldiers from captivity,” explained Deputy Minister of Defense Mstislav Banik.

The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that this payment system is designed not only to provide financial support to the military but also to highlight the importance of effective actions on the battlefield, particularly in conditions of intense combat.

It is also noted that captured Russian soldiers are viewed as an important resource for future exchanges, which allow for the return home of Ukrainian defenders currently in captivity. Deputy Minister of Defense Mstislav Banik spoke about this during a briefing.

Ukrainian military officers will not be subject to discharge from the army during the demobilization of enlisted personnel scheduled for the end of 2026 due to the critical importance of their role in troop command.

A digital mechanism for the return of military personnel after unauthorized absence from their units has been launched in Ukraine via the “Army+” app, which allows them to complete the procedure without unnecessary bureaucracy and immediately select a new unit. The Ministry of Defense says the system is intended to expedite the return of motivated soldiers to the most effective units of the Defense Forces.

Zelenskyy announced an increase in pay for military personnel: infantrymen will receive 300,000 UAH.
