June 19: What holiday do believers celebrate, and what does this day promise in terms of prosperity?

On June 19, according to the new church calendar, believers honor Saint Jude the Apostle—the Lord’s brother by blood and one of the preachers of Christianity.

In the folk calendar, this day is known as Zosima the Beekeeper. Our ancestors associated it with beekeeping and believed that it was during this period that bees were actively filling the honeycombs with honey.

According to folk traditions, June 19 is considered a good day to start new endeavors. It was also considered a good omen to repay debts—it was believed that this would bring prosperity and financial well-being.

At the same time, it was not recommended to lend money, sell or give away honey, or harm bees or beehives.

Traditionally, the weather was predicted based on the bees’ behavior on this day: when the bees were actively flying out, it foreshadowed a sunny day, and when they returned to their hives, it signaled that rain was approaching.
