A 19-year-old resident of the Poltava region has been charged with the murder of a Ukrainian soldier on behalf of Russia
Prosecutors from the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor’s Office have notified a 19-year-old resident of Poltava Oblast that he is under suspicion; according to the investigation, he was recruited by Russian intelligence services to organize the murder of a Ukrainian serviceman. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the investigation, the suspect received instructions via the Telegram messenger app from a representative of the Russian special services and was to be paid 5,000 hryvnias to organize the poisoning of a 23-year-old Ukrainian Navy marine.
To carry out the crime, Russian intelligence services used a fake account belonging to a young woman, through which they established contact with the soldier and arranged for the delivery of a “gift.”
Following his handler’s instructions, the suspect purchased a bottle of alcohol, added a methadone-based toxic substance to it, and then mailed the package to Zhytomyr. The soldier received the package and consumed its contents, after which he died in intensive care a few days later as a result of poisoning.
Law enforcement officers detained the suspect at his place of residence. He is charged with intentional murder for mercenary motives and in the interests of the aggressor state (clauses 6 and 12 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Investigative actions are currently underway to identify other individuals involved in the organization and commission of the crime.
