Sybiga warned of Russia's attempts to thwart new sanctions by feigning diplomacy
On July 25, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga urged Kyiv’s allies to be cautious about possible attempts by Russia to use diplomatic statements to ease pressure and block new sanctions. According to him, Moscow may resort to such measures to buy time and avoid additional restrictions.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Over the past few years, one pattern has been clearly evident: every time new large-scale sanctions are imminent, especially from the U.S., Putin does everything possible to buy time. His favorite tool? False diplomacy, staged phone calls, and meetings without sincere intentions,” the minister noted.
According to him, given that Senator Graham’s sanctions bill is set to be considered as early as next week, it is essential to remain vigilant. Russia may try to derail its passage by creating the appearance of an interest in peace.
Sybiga also called for increased pressure on Russia.
“Increasing sanctions pressure on Moscow is not just timely—it is vital to counter Russian terror and compel Russia to bring this war to a real end,” he said.
Earlier, Sibiga warned of the threat of a price shock due to Russian attacks in the Black Sea.
Russian forces launched a missile strike on a civilian vessel flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau. As a result of the attack, five crew members were killed, eight others were evacuated, and the fate of five remains unknown.
In the Black Sea, Russia attacked a foreign merchant ship flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. One person was killed, and three others were wounded.
