30 Ukrainian hospitals have already switched to generating their own electricity
Efforts to strengthen the energy independence of medical facilities are continuing in Ukraine. Since the beginning of 2026, 30 hospitals have already launched their own electricity generation as part of the “Ray of Hope” project.
To this end, solar power plants with a total capacity of 2,388 kW have been installed at these medical facilities. This allows hospitals to partially meet their own electricity needs, increasing their resilience to potential power outages and ensuring the uninterrupted operation of critical medical equipment.
Solar Power Plants for Hospitals
From January through early July 2026, 30 healthcare facilities in Ukraine began generating their own electricity as part of the “Ray of Hope” project. The total capacity of the solar power plants commissioned at these medical facilities is 2,388 kW.
Currently, another 106 facilities are at various stages of implementation. Five healthcare facilities are completing preparatory work, and technical solutions for the implementation of off-grid systems are being developed for 146 medical facilities.
The launch of solar power generation at 30 hospitals was made possible thanks to the support of international partners. Specifically, 24 healthcare facilities received funding from Germany, five with support from Sweden, and one additional project was implemented with assistance from the United Kingdom.
The “Ray of Hope” project is a joint initiative of the European Commission, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The program is being implemented under the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, coordinated by the Energy Community Secretariat.
The goal of the initiative is to enhance the energy resilience of medical facilities by installing solar panels, energy storage systems, and other equipment that will ensure a stable power supply and uninterrupted hospital operations even under challenging conditions.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy.
