A Russian agent was sentenced to 14 years in prison for spying on the "Oplot" tank

A Russian GRU agent who attempted to steal classified documents regarding the Ukrainian T-84BM “Oplot” tank has been sentenced to up to 14 years in prison with confiscation of property.

This was reported by the SBU, noting that the perpetrator was detained in Kharkiv back in February 2021. The investigation established that the enemy agent attempted to obtain data on the development and production of this unique combat vehicle, designed to engage ground and air targets.

To carry out the mission, Russian intelligence services recruited an unemployed resident of the Kharkiv region during his trip to visit relatives in Russia even before the start of the full-scale invasion. In exchange for monetary compensation, the traitor was to gain the trust of an employee at a defense design bureau. The SBU’s counterintelligence unit exposed the agent in the early stages of his activities and detained him while he was attempting to obtain simulated materials that he believed to be classified documents.

The court found the man guilty of treason under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This verdict was handed down amid an intensified fight against enemy spy networks, including the recent exposure of a Hungarian intelligence operative in Zakarpattia. While law enforcement agencies are securing the rear, the Defense Forces on the front lines continue to effectively destroy Russian equipment, particularly with the help of drone units, which, according to Robert Madyar, are demonstrating an efficiency unprecedented for NATO. The situation in Donetsk Oblast remains under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, despite Russian attempts to advance near Platonivka and Minkivka.

As a reminder, the Security Service in Kramatorsk detained yet another traitor. He was coordinating a Russian missile strike on a local school.

The Security Service of Ukraine exposed an employee of Ukrzaliznytsia who was working for the Russian FSB. He was coordinating missile strikes on Kyiv.
