With its latest attacks, Russia is trying to overshadow Trump's visit to China — Zelenskyy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine on May 13 was not accidental. According to him, Russian leader Vladimir Putin is attempting to divert the world’s attention from international events, particularly U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to China.
This was reported with reference to a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Since the start of the day, according to Zelenskyy, more than 800 enemy drones have been detected, indicating the scale of the attack.
"It certainly cannot be called a coincidence that one of the longest sustained Russian attacks against Ukraine is taking place precisely at the time when the President of the United States has arrived on a visit to China—a visit from which many have high expectations," he noted.
The head of state emphasized that “at this difficult geopolitical moment,” the aggressor country is attempting to disrupt the overall political climate and “draw attention to its own evil” at the expense of Ukrainian lives and Ukraine’s infrastructure.
"All day today, the Russians have been launching waves of 'Shaheds' against our regions, specifically targeting those closest to NATO borders," the statement reads.
Zelenskyy noted that since the start of the day, there have been at least 800 Russian drones, and the attack is ongoing. There have been strikes in many regions.
"As of now, we know of dozens of wounded, including children. Unfortunately, six people have died," the head of state said.
Zelenskyyhopes that Trump will raise the issue of ending the war during his visit to China.
