An atmospheric front will bring thunderstorms, hail, and squalls to Ukraine

On July 8, due to the passage of a weather front from Western Europe, unstable weather is expected in most regions of Ukraine. Meteorologists are forecasting thunderstorms, hail, and squalls in some areas, while heavy downpours and dangerous wind gusts are possible in certain regions.

From July 7 through 9, Ukraine will be under an extreme fire danger warning.

Forecasters have warned of dangerous weather conditions that will prevail during the day on July 8 across almost the entire country, except for the west and the far east.

Main risks:

  • thunderstorms across virtually the entire country;
  • hail in the southern and central regions, as well as in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions;
  • gusts of 15–20 meters per second;
  • heavy rain in the Mykolaiv, Kherson, Kirovohrad, Cherkasy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, and Sumy regions;
  • wind gusts of 15–20 meters per second in the western and northern regions.

The cause of the inclement weather is an active atmospheric front moving in from Western Europe. It is associated with a cyclone over the Baltic Sea.

The front will bring short-lived rains of varying intensity accompanied by thunderstorms, and in some places, hail and squalls. Atmospheric pressure will drop rapidly, while humidity will fluctuate.

Behind the front, cooler air from the west will move into Ukraine. Residents of the western regions, Vinnytsia Oblast, and most northern regions will feel the sharpest drop in temperature.

It will be cloudy with some clear spells. During the day, except in the west and the far east, there will be thunderstorms, and in the southern, central, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions, there will be heavy rain, hail, and squalls of 15–20 meters per second in some places. Only in the southeast will there be no precipitation at night.

Winds will be from the southwest and west at 7–12 meters per second. During the day, gusts of up to 15–20 meters per second are possible in the western and northern regions.

Nighttime temperatures will range from 14 to 19 degrees. During the day, temperatures will rise to 24–29 degrees, while in the western regions, Vinnytsia Oblast, and most northern regions, they will reach only 19–24 degrees, according to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.

Earlier, forecasters provided a preview of next week’s weather.

On Monday, July 6, variable cloudiness is forecast for most regions of the country, with thunderstorms expected in some areas. Precipitation is expected at night in the northern, western, Cherkasy, and Vinnytsia regions, and during the day, brief showers will occur in some areas throughout Ukraine; in the northeast, they will be widespread.

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center provided a forecast of what the weather might be like in Ukraine in July.
