Britain ready to deploy troops in Ukraine after end of hostilities
The United Kingdom has announced its readiness to deploy troops to Ukrainian territory once hostilities cease, a spokesperson for Prime Minister Keir Starmer said.
“If you ask me directly whether the UK is still ready to deploy troops if the fighting stops, the answer is yes. That is our current position,” the spokesperson added.
During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Starmer expressed sympathy for Ukrainians amid large-scale Russian attacks and praised their courage and resilience. The leaders discussed the negotiations in Geneva, further diplomatic steps, and the importance of ensuring a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.
The talks also covered the work of the “Coalition of the Determined” and preparations by international partners for the potential deployment of multinational forces after the end of hostilities. Planning for such measures is ongoing, particularly following joint commitments made by Britain and France during the summer.
Starmer and Zelensky agreed to maintain regular contact in the near future.
