Budanov described the political situation in Ukraine as tense

Kirill Budanov, head of the Office of the President, believes that the current political situation in Ukraine is tense, but it is too early to speak of a crisis. He called on political forces and society to prevent internal division, as Russia continues its war against Ukraine.

 

According to him, there is indeed political tension in Ukraine right now, but it has not yet escalated into a crisis. “First of all, I don’t consider this a crisis. It’s tension, but it’s not yet a crisis,” Budanov said. He emphasized that during a full-scale war, it is important for Ukrainians to remember the main threat—Russia. According to the head of the Presidential Office, Moscow seeks to destroy Ukrainian statehood and culture.

Budanov also warned of the danger of internal conflict. He believes that political conflicts should not lead to the fragmentation of the state. “If, under such conditions, we begin to tear the state apart from within—and I would even say that we continue our attempts to tear the state apart from within—we will clearly repeat the events of 1918. Exactly,” he stated.

What Budanov Said About the Elections

Separately, the head of the Office of the President commented on the possibility of holding elections during wartime. Budanov called this a problematic issue. According to him, difficulties arise not only from a legal standpoint but also in practice. “Elections during wartime are a problem. It’s simply a problem,” he said.

Specifically, this involves organizing voting amid hostilities, ensuring the safety of voters and military personnel, and resolving legal issues. At the same time, Budanov called on all sides of the political standoff to de-escalate tensions and not lose sight of the situation on the front lines. “Calm down a bit and look at the situation in Ukraine,” he urged.

Budanov also emphasized that a way out of political tension can always be found. At the same time, in his view, during wartime, Ukrainian society must avoid actions that could weaken the state from within. Budanov made these remarks in an interview for the unified telethon, which aired on August 28.
