Latvia has suspended the use of Oxygen Forensics software due to the company's ties to Russia

The Latvian State Police has suspended the use of software from the American company Oxygen Forensics and will assess the advisability of its continued use after the U.S. Department of Justice accused the developer of concealing ties to Russia.

The Latvian agency stated that the products underwent due diligence prior to the software’s purchase in September 2026, and to date, no signs of potential security risks have been identified. Employees of the Main Directorate of Criminal Police used this software to extract and analyze data from smartphones and computers in an isolated environment—on dedicated devices without an internet connection or access to an internal database.

The decision to suspend its use was made after it was revealed that the company had been selling its services to law enforcement agencies in several European countries. According to Politico, digital forensics software from Oxygen Forensics was purchased or used in several European countries.

The Latvian State Police reported this to Delfi.

As a reminder, the United States decided to impose sanctions against the leadership of Kaspersky Lab. This was due to cybersecurity risks.

The Russian antivirus giant Kaspersky Lab decided to leave the U.S. market after the Biden administration banned the sale and distribution of the company’s software.
