A massive fish kill occurred in the Dniester River due to the abnormal heat
A mass fish die-off was reported in the Dniester Reservoir between the villages of Rashkiv and Bernove. During an inspection, employees of the Khotyn National Nature Park, together with the Chernivtsi Fish Protection Patrol, retrieved 210 dead pike from the reservoir.
According to preliminary findings by experts, the cause of the die-off was abnormal heat.
The water temperature rose to +33°C in some areas, causing a critical drop in oxygen levels in the reservoir. Pike were the hardest hit, as this species is particularly sensitive to oxygen deprivation.
Experts are continuing to monitor the situation to assess the extent of the fish mortality and the condition of the reservoir.
