“Why aren’t they on the front lines?”: The Kyiv Military Registration and Enlistment Office reveals how many eligible men are serving in the capital

At the Kyiv City Military Registration and Enlistment Office, only 10–15% of servicemembers are fully fit for service without restrictions, while the majority have health issues or combat injuries. This was stated by Valery Kravchenko, acting deputy head of the Kyiv City Military Registration and Enlistment Office, during a conversation with MP Yulia Yatsyk, who asked why fit soldiers are serving at the office rather than on the front lines.

UA.NEWS correspondent reports from the scene.

“Currently, this percentage is low, no more than 10–15 percent,” said Kravchenko, answering a question about the number of fully fit servicemen in the Kyiv Military Registration and Enlistment Office.

According to him, even among the leadership there are soldiers with combat experience and injuries.

“Speaking for myself: I was wounded; I am a combat veteran. In 2022, I served near Bakhmut; I have two concussions and a field wound, and as of today, I am fit for service,” he stated.

Kravchenko explained that military personnel without restrictions who remain at the TCC perform specific tasks.

“They have specific professional needs that they fulfill. These are, first and foremost, people who handle administrative work and financial support,” the official noted.

He also assured that such service members are rotated to combat units.

“Those who have no restrictions are regularly rotated to combat units… In fact, the policy is such that everyone in a position must have combat experience,” Kravchenko added.

A meeting of the Temporary Special Commission on Defense and Anti-Corruption is taking place in Kyiv on Friday, May 15. During the meeting, Valery Kravchenko, acting deputy head of the Kyiv City Temporary Special Commission and Joint Forces, provided answers to the questions posed.
