The State Bureau of Investigation has expanded the investigation into the sale of 500 kg of explosives

In the case involving an attempt to sell a large shipment of explosives, investigators from the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) have announced new charges against two additional military personnel. They are believed to be members of an organized group involved in the storage and distribution of ammunition. The investigation is ongoing, and the list of suspects is growing. This was reported by the SBI.

The State Bureau of Investigations announced a new phase in the case regarding the illegal trafficking of explosives, which involves an attempt to sell a large batch of dangerous munitions. The agency noted that earlier, in November, law enforcement officers detained a colonel and two of his subordinates while they were attempting to sell approximately 500 kilograms of explosives for an estimated price of $88,000.

During the searches at that time, a significant arsenal was seized: automatic weapons, a submachine gun, a container with a rocket, over two thousand rounds of ammunition, various types of grenades, and grenade launcher rounds, which attested to the scale of the illegal activity. “During the searches, an automatic rifle, a submachine gun, a container with a rocket, over two thousand rounds of ammunition, various types of grenades, and grenade launcher rounds were seized,” the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) noted, describing the preliminary results of the investigation.

As of today, investigators have established the possible involvement of two additional military personnel in the scheme, who are suspected of purchasing, storing, and subsequently transferring 500 kilograms of explosives for transport and sale in Kyiv.

In addition, according to the investigation, these same suspects may have attempted to sell additional ammunition, including over 11 kilograms of plastic explosives, grenades, and detonating cord, which further expands the scope of the case. The new suspects are charged with participation in an organized group and illegal handling of ammunition and explosives, which carries a sentence of up to seven years in prison.

One of the previously detained individuals has also been charged with an additional offense—leaving a military unit without authorization during martial law. Investigators continue to determine the origin of the weapons and identify other possible participants in the scheme who may have been involved in the illegal trafficking of explosive materials.

In Kyiv, law enforcement uncovered an organized scheme to embezzle over 4 million hryvnias during the procurement of medical supplies for a state institution.
