The State Bureau of Investigation has uncovered an escape scheme at a training center; the case is heading to court
In Kremenchuk, the case of two civilians accused of helping a soldier escape from a training center after mobilization has been referred to court. According to investigators, the escape was organized by acquaintances who took him away from the unit at night, reports.
Two local residents will stand trial in Kremenchuk; investigators believe they were involved in organizing the soldier’s escape from the training center where he was sent after mobilization. The case has already been referred to court following the completion of the SBI’s investigation in cooperation with the police.
According to the investigation, the soldier himself approached his former employer with a request to help him leave the unit, after which the employer enlisted an acquaintance who agreed to drive there at night and take him out of the training center in Zhytomyr Oblast.
As law enforcement established, the scheme was simple but well-thought-out: the soldier left the base, changed into civilian clothes, and got into the car, after which he was taken to Kremenchuk, where he even went to work at a car repair shop the next day.
Subsequently, SBI officers determined his whereabouts and tracked down the individuals who helped organize the escape, after which both civilians were charged with complicity and aiding and abetting desertion. The “driver” is charged with aiding and abetting desertion, and the car repair shop owner with inciting such an offense; these articles of the Criminal Code carry a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.
Meanwhile, the serviceman himself returned to duty after being notified of the charges and is currently serving in a combat unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the court has released him from criminal liability in this case. The proceedings are being overseen by the specialized defense prosecutor’s office of the Central Region, and the final decision in the case will be made by the court.
