The State Bureau of Investigation closed the case regarding the illegal possession of firearms by soldier Penkalsky, which had been opened after his death
The State Bureau of Investigations has closed the criminal case regarding the alleged unauthorized absence from his unit by Junior Sergeant Marian Penkalsky of the 503rd Separate Marine Battalion.
According to attorney Galina Yanko, the case was closed due to the absence of a criminal offense in the soldier’s actions. The proceedings regarding desertion were initiated after the soldier’s death.
Marian Penkalsky went missing on the night of December 19, 2024, in the Dobropillya area on the eve of his departure for a combat mission. In late January 2025, his body was found with his hands tied behind his back, his head missing, and some of his internal organs removed.
The attorney emphasized that closing the case means restoring the soldier’s good name. At the same time, a separate investigation into the circumstances of Penkalsky’s death is ongoing, and the issue of identifying and burying all of the deceased’s remains remains unresolved.

As a reminder, the High Anti-Corruption Court recently convicted a relative of Member of Parliament Goncharenko.
