5,000 pickup trucks will be purchased for the Armed Forces of Ukraine through Prozorro

The Ukrainian Armed Forces plan to purchase 5,000 pickup trucks through the Prozorro system, which will be the largest centralized procurement of such vehicles for the military in history. These are open tenders designed to make deliveries faster, more transparent, and more competitive. This was announced by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

Ukraine is preparing for a large-scale renewal of the Defense Forces’ vehicle fleet, as the government plans to purchase 5,000 pickup trucks at once through the Prozorro public procurement system. These vehicles are critically needed on the front lines for logistics, unit mobility, and the operations of military crews.

Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced the launch of the procurement process, emphasizing that this is one of the first major procurements of this type that the state is conducting entirely through an open tender, and at the same time, the largest number of pickup trucks ever centrally ordered for the military.

According to the minister, pickup trucks remain one of the most in-demand types of transport on the front lines; however, for a long time, this need was not systematically met, which placed an additional burden on units that were forced to find their own solutions to ensure mobility. “This is one of the first examples of a large-scale supply of pickup trucks to the Defense Forces through an open tender and the largest number ever allocated by the state for the military,” noted Mykhailo Fedorov.

The Ministry of Defense explains that the procurement will take place in several stages through the Prozorro system using framework agreements, which will allow for the involvement of more suppliers and the creation of a competitive market, as well as securing more favorable supply terms.

It is specifically emphasized that there are already examples of such procedures, notably the procurement of 155-mm artillery ammunition, where competition resulted in savings of over 16%, and now plans are in place to scale this model to other areas of military supply.

The ministry also notes that the first batches of pickup trucks are expected to arrive by the end of the year, and the defense procurement reform itself envisages a gradual transition to transparent tender procedures in other segments as well, including future purchases of unmanned aerial vehicles.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine plan to set the minimum salary for military personnel at 30,000 hryvnias, as stated by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.
