Another 11 books have been added to the list of banned publications in Ukraine

In April, the list of books whose content has been deemed to be directed against Ukraine’s independence, as well as to contain propaganda promoting violence and inciting interethnic, racial, or religious hostility, was expanded by 11 additional titles.

This was reported by the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting.

As noted, the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting continues its systematic work to protect the national information space. As part of these efforts, in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine, it conducts ongoing monitoring of the publishing sectors of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, and the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine to identify instances of the publication and distribution of anti-Ukrainian publications.

Based on the monitoring results, the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting compiles a list of book publications with anti-Ukrainian content.

In April, 11 new titles with anti-Ukrainian content were added to this list based on proposals from the SBU.

The vast majority of the added books are new publications released by Russian publishers, including those under sanctions, following the start of the full-scale invasion.

The identified publications are instruments of hybrid aggression aimed at legitimizing the Russian invasion, glorifying war criminals, and denying Ukraine’s historical agency.

Among the new entries on the list:

  • Takayuki Tanaka’s book, published in Japanese, “Alley of Angels: Facts of 8 Years of Genocide Against Ukrainians Committed by Ukrainians Themselves in 2014–2022” (propaganda aimed at an international audience with elements of an information operation, in which a foreign author is used to relay propaganda clichés about an “internal conflict” and “genocide” allegedly committed by Ukraine);
  • Oleksiy Kungurov’s book “There Was No Kievan Rus’” (a pseudo-historical work that denies Ukrainian identity and promotes revisionist narratives that essentially align with imperial and Kremlin propaganda about a “single people”);
  • Bogdan Margants’s work “Margants. The Path of the Wagner PMC. SVO” (direct propaganda for illegal armed groups and terrorist methods of warfare. The author is a Ukrainian citizen who fought against his own country. The work glorifies and romanticizes an organization recognized as criminal and terrorist in many countries around the world).

The State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting reminds the public that the distribution of publications included in the list may constitute criminal offenses, liability for which is provided for by the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As of today, the list already contains information on 668 titles of propaganda publications.
