The National Police employs approximately 70,000 police officers of draft age
There are currently about 70,000 police officers of draft age serving in the National Police of Ukraine. This was reported by Fatsievich.
Oleksandr Fatsievych, Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine and Acting Head of the Patrol Police Department, stated this in an interview with Babel.
“As of today, we have 103,000 personnel on the roster across the entire police force, even though our authorized strength should be over 140,000. Of the 103,000 police officers, about 70,000 are men aged 25–60, and there are many women—24%. Now specifically regarding the patrol police. According to the staffing plan, there should be 20,000 patrol officers across Ukraine. On paper, that is, the actual number as of now is 15,000–16,000,” said Fatsievich.
He reported that over 2,000 patrol officers have been deployed to the Defense Forces and are currently on the front lines.
“Some are in the Kharkiv region; the main group, under the command of ‘Luty,’ is in the Kostyantynivka sector in two battalion tactical groups, while another unit is carrying out tasks in the south,” said the deputy head of the National Police.
The National Police also has units that are carrying out missions to replace other Defense Forces in certain sections of the border. As Fatsievich explained, these units are not apprehending draft dodgers but are on combat duty at the border.
“In total, there are 3,000 police officers, of whom 1,000 are patrol police—people who should be in the cities, but they have been assigned to be there, and we must assist the Defense Forces. As a result, we have rotations within the patrol police; everyone goes to the front. Rotations can last six months to a year,” he stated.
If patrol officers do not want to go on rotations, a quota is set: a certain number of people from a specific unit. “Anyone who objects—we fire them and issue a summons,” the police officer said.
The head of the patrol police reported that patrol officer Mykhailo Drobnytskyi, who was charged with dereliction of duty following the terrorist attack in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, was not on such rotations—his turn had not yet come.
“But the commander of the company Drobnitsky was in is on rotation, specifically in the east. We’re also sending patrol officers to reinforce territorial units in Kherson, Donetsk Oblast, and Zaporizhzhia. The conditions and tasks are different there. Of course, they aren’t carrying out tasks with automatic weapons there, but they are conducting evacuations under constant shelling, which is psychologically important,” said Fatsievich.
The Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine recalled that following the terrorist attack, two patrol officers—Mykhailo Drobnytskyi and Anna Dudina—were dismissed; the head of the Patrol Police Department, Yaroslav Kurbakov, was removed from his post and demoted, along with the regiment commander, battalion commander, and acting company commander.
“They wrote their own resignation reports. The company commander is currently in the east; we’re bringing him back. He has combat experience, and we’ll make use of that—we may even promote him,” noted Fatsievich.
