An SBU investigator from Poltava Oblast has been taken into custody on suspicion of accepting a bribe

The High Anti-Corruption Court has imposed a preventive measure on an investigator with the SBU Office in Poltava Oblast, ordering his detention with the option of bail set at 3.9 million hryvnias.

This was reported on Facebook by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspect, along with his department head and a lawyer, was caught extorting $110,000 from a business owner. In exchange for this money, law enforcement officials promised to facilitate a plea deal in a case involving the illegal supply of equipment to Russia through shell companies in Kazakhstan.

All three participants in the scheme have already been charged with receiving an unlawful benefit on an especially large scale. Investigative actions are currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime and the role of each suspect.

Prior to this, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and NABU detained the head of the investigative department of the SBU’s Poltava Regional Directorate, his subordinate, and a lawyer while they were receiving illicit benefits. The investigation established that these individuals demanded $110,000 from the business owner. In exchange for this sum, the suspects promised to ensure the conclusion of a plea agreement in a case involving economic activities in collaboration with an aggressor state. The case pertains to the supply of equipment to the Russian Federation through front companies in Kazakhstan.

Since the beginning of 2026, the Security Service of Ukraine has notified 81 individuals of their status as suspects, 20 of whom are agency staff members implicated in actions against the state. In addition to internal corrupt officials, those detained include Russian “moles” engaged in espionage for the benefit of the Russian Federation, as well as participants in fraudulent schemes.
