The case of a former prosecutor accused of accepting an $80,000 bribe has been referred to court
A prosecutor from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, based on the findings of a NABU investigation, filed an indictment with the court against a former prosecutor of the Slobozhansky District Prosecutor's Office in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
The former prosecutor is accused of extorting $80,000 in illicit benefits.
“According to the investigation, from January through April 2026, the prosecutor repeatedly approached a lawyer with requests to provide him with a bribe,” the SAP stated in a post on its Telegram channel on Friday.
In return, as noted by the SAPO, the prosecutor promised to take or refrain from taking actions in the interests of the lawyer’s client—a notary—against whom proceedings had been initiated regarding the registration of land ownership rights based on allegedly forged documents.
“In particular, the prosecutor promised to charge the notary with a less serious offense, 'overlook' all instances of unlawful conduct, and also enter into a plea agreement with her providing for the minimum penalty,” the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office emphasized.
According to the SAP, in the event of refusal, the prosecutor threatened to file charges against her for 15 counts of criminal offenses and an additional charge, which would have exposed the woman to actual imprisonment and a ban on practicing as a notary.
“Initially, the amount of the illicit benefit was $50,000, but the prosecutor later increased it to $80,000. The funds were to be transferred in installments through a predetermined currency exchange office,” the statement reads.
The former prosecutor’s actions have been classified under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
