The April full moon has arrived in Ukraine: what makes the Pink Moon so special
Tomorrow night, the night sky will be illuminated by a magnificent astronomical phenomenon—the April full moon. The exact time of the full moon phase is 4:13 a.m. Kyiv time.
The event symbolizes the definitive arrival of spring, nature’s awakening after winter’s slumber, and the beginning of a new life cycle.
The Pink Full Moon is also known as the Egg Moon or the Fish Moon, reflecting various aspects of spring’s rebirth.
The most famous name for this full moon is the “Pink Moon.” However, don’t expect the moon to actually turn pink. It will have its usual silvery-yellow, white, or slightly golden glow, and may appear slightly reddish near the horizon due to atmospheric conditions.
The phenomenon got its name from the ancient Native American tribes of North America. At this time, on the eastern coast of the continent, the awl-shaped phlox begins to bloom en masse, which the locals called “pink moss.” Its bright flowers covered the ground, symbolizing the victory of warmth over the cold.
Other popular names for the April full moon:
- Grass Moon – reflects the awakening of green shoots through withered leaves after the sun has warmed the earth.
- Egg Moon – associated with the nesting of wild birds and the symbolism of the egg as the beginning of new life, which is important in the spring rituals of various cultures.
- Fish Moon – named after tribes whose livelihoods depended on fishing; in April, fish, particularly herring and salmon, began to migrate upstream en masse to spawn.
A full moon occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align on a single imaginary line, and sunlight fully illuminates the visible side of the Moon. Although the exact moment lasts only a split second, visually the Moon appears perfectly round and bright for several nights before and after this date.
Astrologers and esotericists consider the April full moon a period of powerful energetic activity. It is the ideal time for:
- letting go of the old and unnecessary;
- refreshing your thoughts and plans;
- launching new creative projects.
During the full moon, sensitive people may experience heightened emotions, insomnia, or inspiration. Experts advise avoiding conflicts, not making hasty decisions, and spending more time outdoors.
As a reminder, the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has released a forecast for the second month of spring, according to which temperatures and precipitation will remain within the climatic norm.
