Supplementary payments totaling up to 17.6 million hryvnias: who is receiving the largest pension compensation awards through the courts
In Ukraine, some pensioners are seeking multimillion-dollar pension supplements through the courts—the largest of which amounts to 17.6 million hryvnias.
According to the Pension Fund, such payments are calculated retroactively—for the years during which the pension, in the plaintiffs’ opinion, was underpaid. On average, it would take an ordinary pensioner over 200 years to receive such an amount.
The largest compensation—over 17.6 million hryvnias—is to be received by a former Ministry of Justice official, whose pension was recalculated by the court to include significant allowances and bonuses.
Another approximately 17 million UAH was awarded to a retired judge, who, following the recalculation, was granted a lifetime monthly allowance of over 350,000 UAH.
Other large payments include:
— 12.9 million UAH — a general;
— 7.5 million UAH — a former parliamentary official;
— 6.2 million UAH — another judge.
Such rulings are possible due to lawsuits in which plaintiffs demand the application of old legal provisions or the consideration of evidence of significantly higher income than previously declared.
At the same time, for most Ukrainians, the maximum pension is capped and significantly lower—without a court ruling, it is impossible to receive such amounts.
Earlier, Ihor Ilchenko, acting head of the National Social Service of Ukraine, reported 18,223 UAH in income in his 2025 electronic declaration.
Serhiy Tyurin, head of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Military Administration, published his 2025 declaration. The main changes were an increase in salary and the absence from the declaration of a Kyiv apartment previously used by his son, Danylo.
