Two suspects have been charged with attempting to smuggle a man into Romania
Law enforcement officials have notified two participants in the scheme of their status as suspects; according to the investigation, they promised to smuggle a man into Romania for $17,000. The details of the case are being established, and the investigation is ongoing.
It has been established that the woman sought out people willing to leave Ukraine, and her accomplice was then to organize the crossing of the border into Romania. According to the proposed plan, the man subject to military conscription was to wait up to a week for a suitable opportunity to cross the border in the border zone near Chernivtsi.
The fee for these services was $17,000. The organizers of the scheme explained that they had arrangements with border guards to ensure the individual would not be detected. As a deposit, the suspects took $1,000 from the “client.”
They were detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine while receiving $16,000.
Under the procedural guidance of the Svyatoshyn District Prosecutor’s Office, a 28-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man were notified of the charges against them for promising to smuggle a conscript across the border outside a checkpoint.
The court imposed pretrial detention as a preventive measure, with the right to post bail in the amount of 660,000 UAH.
The penalty under this article provides for up to 9 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
