Energoatom is launching production of fuel components for Westinghouse Electric Company
Energoatom has begun preparations to manufacture its own components for Westinghouse nuclear fuel. The spin-off unit "Atomenergomash" has already received the necessary materials to produce the first batch of parts, which will be used in fuel assemblies.
This was reported by NAEK "Energoatom."
"Energoatom is implementing agreements with Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB regarding the localization of production of components used in fuel assemblies. The Atomenergomash (AEM) subsidiary has received the necessary materials to manufacture the first batch of fuel assembly tails for VVER-1000 reactors. The production time for the batch is four months," the statement reads.
The manufactured shanks will then be used in the production of fuel for Ukrainian nuclear power plants. It is noted that the qualification process for another fuel assembly component—fuel cassette heads—is currently underway.
Energoatomhas suspended some employees from work pending an anti-corruption investigation.
