Fedorov stated that there is no single person in charge of air defense in the Sumy region
Mykhailo Fedorov, who was dismissed from his post as defense minister, stated at a briefing in Kyiv that there is no specific individual in the Sumy region who is fully responsible for the region’s air defense.
According to him, despite the presence in the region of the “North” military group, the “Sumy” and “Kursk” tactical groups, and Territorial Defense units, there is no single person in the region who has full operational command over all military resources needed to defend the city and the region. Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized that this situation highlights the urgent need to reform the command structure to ensure more effective protection of frontline territories.
The former minister also shared details of his recent trip to the Sumy region, which took place following another series of devastating airstrikes by Russian forces. He recounted a meeting with a local resident who lost his wife and daughter as a result of the enemy attack. The man mentioned the signed contract for the supply of Gripen fighter jets and called for accelerating this process so that the future aircraft could destroy Russian guided bombs (KABs) that are devastating Ukrainian cities.
