In Rivne, an 18-year-old local resident is suspected of setting fire to a military servicemember’s car in exchange for a promised reward of $1,500. According to the investigation, the young man found the request on Telegram and carried it out, but never received the promised money.

He now faces up to 10 years in prison.

As reported, on September 11, a 40-year-old Rivne resident contacted the police. She reported that a Suzuki car belonging to her husband, a military servicemember, had been set on fire while parked near a high-rise building on Soborna Street.

The fire damaged the front of the car. At the scene, law enforcement officers collected swabs, cigarette butts, and other physical evidence.

According to the investigation, police identified the suspected arsonist as an 18-year-old resident of Rivne. Law enforcement officials claim that he found an offer on a Telegram channel to earn money by setting fire to a military officer’s car.

Afterward, the young man allegedly received detailed instructions, prepared a flammable substance, and set the car on fire. He was promised $1,500 for completing the task, but he never received the money.

An 18-year-old resident of Rivne was detained and charged under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—intentional damage to property by arson. The article carries a penalty of three to ten years in prison.

The court remanded the suspect in custody for 60 days, with the option to post bail in the amount of 266,240 UAH.
