The first electric trains in Ukraine have been equipped with air conditioning. Ukrzaliznytsia has installed air conditioners on trains running between Rivne and Lviv, as well as between Kyiv and Khmelnytskyi, thereby improving passenger comfort.
The company announced this on Facebook.
“Ukrzaliznytsia has installed air conditioners in regional electric trains for the first time. Regional electric trains running on the well-known Rivne–Lviv–Rivne route, as well as on the new Kyiv–Khmelnytskyi–Kyiv route, are already equipped with air conditioners,” the post states.
Ukrzaliznytsia noted that these routes are part of a new state-funded program for domestic passenger rail transport.
The modernized ER9M-502 and ER9E-630 electric trains were upgraded using Ukrzaliznytsia’s own resources. In total, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukrzaliznytsia has already modernized 52 electric trains. Railway workers are completing the upgrade of another air-conditioned electric train, which will soon begin service on routes in the Odesa region as part of the state order for passenger transportation. By the end of the year, plans are in place to modernize more than five additional trains of this type.
