Attorney General Kravchenko Discussed the Investigation into Russian War Crimes During His Visit to the U.S.

Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko has officially concluded his busy working visit to the United States, during which he held a series of strategically important meetings in Washington and New York. The main topics of the extensive talks were strengthening cooperation in the field of international legal assistance, combating high-level corruption, investigating serious international crimes, and imposing new, stringent sanctions against the aggressor.

During the trip, Ruslan Kravchenko met with high-ranking officials from the U.S. Department of Justice, including the Assistant Attorney General and the Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The parties discussed in detail the procedures for coordinating actions and the operational exchange of data in criminal proceedings involving complex cross-border dimensions. Substantive talks were also held with Deputy Assistant Secretaries of State Christopher Smith and David Bedard. American and Ukrainian colleagues paid particular attention to the functioning of the anti-corruption infrastructure, reaching full agreement that the independent and transparent operation of these bodies is the cornerstone of a democratic state, which directly influences the level of financial and political support from international partners.

In addition, the Prosecutor General expressed his deep gratitude to the U.S. government for its active support within the framework of the Advisory Group on the Most Serious International Crimes. This platform provides Ukrainian investigators with unique methodological assistance in gathering irrefutable evidence for future national and international tribunals. A separate sensitive topic of the talks was Russia’s crimes against minors: the illegal transfer and forced deportation of Ukrainian children, the violent alteration of their national identity, violations of children’s rights in the temporarily occupied territories, as well as investigations into instances of sexual violence committed by the occupiers against minors.

Washington also confirmed its readiness to continue funding training programs for Ukrainian prosecutors, particularly in the area of collecting and analyzing complex digital evidence. Kravchenko separately briefed his foreign colleagues on the ongoing implementation of the Prosecutor’s Office Development Strategy for 2025–2028, which aims to fully modernize internal personnel practices and significantly raise professional standards. At the same time, he emphasized the urgent needs of mobile prosecutor teams, who face mortal danger every day while documenting the consequences of enemy shelling directly at the sites of impact, and called on partners to help improve their technical equipment and safety measures.

This was stated in an official statement by the head of the agency dated June 3, 2026.

Earlier reports indicated that Prosecutor General Kravchenko had not signed documents for Mindich’s extradition for two weeks.

The Office of the Prosecutor General denied rumors of Ruslan Kravchenko’s resignation.
