The Ministry of Defense is updating meal rations for military personnel based on a survey

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, together with the “State Logistics Operator,” is preparing to update the technical specifications for individual meal kits. The changes are based on the results of a survey conducted via the “Army+” app, in which more than 60,000 service members participated.

According to the survey results, 80.4% of respondents prefer ready-to-eat meals in retort pouches. Among first courses, borscht was the clear leader (78.3%), and among second courses, a combination of buckwheat and chicken. 

In addition to their basic rations, the soldiers noted the importance of flameless food heaters, water purification kits, and energy snacks (dried meat, nuts, chocolate, protein bars), while crackers and rusks proved to be the least in demand.

The data collected will be taken into account when developing additional ration options, drafting new technical requirements, and updating the regulatory framework.

For the first time, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has included halal and kosher field rations in daily field rations. This decision was made with consideration for the religious beliefs of service members and to raise nutritional standards in the Armed Forces.

Suppliers of field rations to the Armed Forces of Ukraine are suspected of fraud amounting to 71 million.
