Getmantsev called for the dismissal of NBU Governor Pyshnyy
Danylo Getmantsev, chairman of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax, and customs policy, stated that Andriy Pyshnyy should step down as head of the National Bank of Ukraine. He cited as the reason the scandal surrounding an alleged money-laundering scheme at Sens Bank, which was uncovered as part of the NABU operation “Forest Gump.”
The lawmaker also voiced a number of complaints against the National Bank’s leadership in connection with this case.
According to the MP, the current anti-crisis measures taken by the NBU head in response to the leaked recordings could have been considered an adequate response had they been implemented in a timely manner, rather than a year and a half late.
“This reaction now confirms that Andriy Pyshnyy knew about the scheme and covered it up, even though he could have stopped it earlier,” Getmantsev noted.
The lawmaker outlined a number of key allegations against the head of the National Bank:
- Ties to individuals involved in the case: Andriy Pyshnyy’s personal contacts with businessman Vasyl Veselyi dating back to his time with the “People’s Front,” as well as the appointment of six top executives at “SENS Bank” who are directly linked to the head of the NBU.
- Involvement of inner circle: According to Getmantsev, Iryna Mudra, the former deputy chair of the NBU and former deputy head of the Office of the President, not only shaped the bank’s governing bodies but also participated in financial schemes.
- Selective Oversight: The National Bank ignored financial monitoring violations at “SENS Bank” amounting to billions, while at the same time reacting excessively harshly to minor card transactions by ordinary citizens.
“I understand that Andriy is a master at cutting ties to save himself. But not this time. I demand his resignation,” concluded the chair of the relevant committee.
The MP wrote about this on his Facebook page.
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) invited Sense Bank Chairman Oleksiy Stupak to an interview to assess his professional suitability.
Separately, the NBU governor noted that Sens Bank’s supervisory board currently lacks a quorum and is therefore not authorized to act. The regulator emphasizes the need to complete the board’s composition by appointing state representatives from the Cabinet of Ministers and the relevant Verkhovna Rada committee.
JSC “Sens Bank” appears in the case files of the “Forest Gump” case as one of the channels through which funds were transferred in connection with the payment of a 150 million hryvnia bail bond for former Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko. This was reported on August 19 by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, who disclosed details from the investigation files.
Danylo Getmantsev, chairman of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax, and customs policy, categorically denied any involvement in attempts to gain control over Sens Bank or in the new criminal proceedings by NABU and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
