Denmark has pledged to provide Ukraine with military aid with no time limit
Denmark has no plans to reduce its military support for Ukraine. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated that the country will continue to supply weapons, provide air defense assistance, and support the Ukrainian defense industry for as long as necessary to defend against Russia.
Frederiksen made this statement during a ceremony to raise the Ukrainian national flag in Kyiv. Addressing the Ukrainian people, the Danish prime minister emphasized that Ukraine’s struggle is important not only for the country itself. According to her, by defending Kharkiv and Odesa, Ukrainians are simultaneously defending other European cities as well. “Denmark and the countries of Northern Europe and the Baltic states stand with you. We knew from the very beginning that a war cannot be won with words alone,” Frederiksen said.
She recalled that Denmark has repeatedly provided Ukraine with weapons and military equipment. “When you urgently needed weapons and ammunition, we provided them. When you needed tanks and our F-16s, we provided them. When you needed investment in your own defense industry, we provided it,” the prime minister noted.
Now, she said, the main task is to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense. “And now, when you urgently need a robust air defense system, we must promise to provide it,” Frederiksen emphasized.
The support will also include air defense
Denmark, along with other countries, has also participated in joint plans to develop a new missile system. This refers to the European FREYJA project. Its goal is to strengthen the protection of Ukrainian cities against Russian missiles, particularly ballistic ones, as well as to bolster Europe’s air defense.
Ukraine and its European partners plan to combine Ukrainian missile technologies with European radars, sensors, and control systems. The Ukrainian company Fire Point is involved in the project. FREYJA is viewed as a promising pan-European air defense and missile defense system designed to complement existing defense capabilities.
Frederiksen pledged support without specifying a timeframe
The Danish prime minister separately emphasized that aid to Ukraine should not be measured solely in monetary terms. According to her, the most important thing is Denmark’s willingness to stand by Ukraine throughout the war. “Our support cannot be measured in money. It can be measured by a simple promise: as much as is needed,” the Danish prime minister assured.
Frederiksen also emphasized that Denmark and other countries in Northern Europe and the Baltic region view Ukraine’s security as part of their own security. That is why Copenhagen plans to continue supporting the Ukrainian army, assisting with air defense, and investing in Ukraine’s defense capabilities. On August 23, the Ukrainian national flag was ceremonially raised in Kyiv. The ceremony was attended by Ukrainian government officials and leaders from six European countries who had arrived in the capital on the eve of Independence Day.
