Japan has allocated more than $14 million to support Ukraine through the NATO mechanism
Japan has allocated $14.658 million to support NATO's PURL initiative, which involves the procurement of equipment for Ukraine.
This was reported by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministry noted that the allocated funds will be used as part of an aid package consisting exclusively of non-lethal equipment. The specific list of supplies will be coordinated with NATO.
The new aid is expected to supplement the support Ukraine is already receiving through the NATO Trust Fund as part of the Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP), to which Japan has previously contributed.
Tokyo emphasized that it will continue to support Ukraine in order to achieve a just and lasting peace, and also intends to deepen cooperation with NATO.
The PURL initiative is a mechanism through which Alliance member states and partners pool funds to purchase U.S. equipment through NATO for subsequent transfer to Ukraine.
