Pre-trial measures have been imposed on BEB officials on suspicion of bribery

The court has imposed pretrial measures on two employees of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine who are suspected of receiving illicit benefits. One of them will remain in custody with the option of posting a multi-million-dollar bail, while the other has been placed under 24-hour house arrest.

The decision was made in the context of an investigation being conducted by law enforcement agencies under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR). The case is linked to two separate incidents of bribery in different departments of the BEB. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to the investigation, a senior detective of the BEB’s territorial office in the Kyiv region was taken into custody with the option of posting bail in the amount of 5 million hryvnias. He is suspected of demanding $15,000 in exchange for not bringing a person to criminal liability. “A preventive measure in the form of detention with the option of posting 5 million hryvnias in bail has been imposed on the senior detective of the BEB territorial department in the Kyiv region,” the case materials state.

The court ordered round-the-clock house arrest for the second suspect—an analyst with the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine. He is suspected of receiving $2,000 for “resolving the issue” regarding the issuance of a license to store fuel.

According to the investigation, both incidents are linked to the receipt of improper benefits in exchange for official decisions. In the first case, the aim was to avoid criminal liability; in the second, to influence the issuance of permits. “The court has placed the analyst from the Security Service of Ukraine, who is suspected of receiving $2,000 for ‘resolving the issue’ regarding the issuance of a fuel storage license, under round-the-clock house arrest,” the statement reads.

In these criminal proceedings, the pre-trial investigation is being conducted under the procedural supervision of the Office of the Prosecutor General. The Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigations are also involved in the investigation. Law enforcement officials continue to establish all the circumstances of the case, as well as identify any other possible participants or incidents that may be linked to the officials’ activities.
