The idea of holding fall elections in Ukraine was rejected because of Zaluzhny and Budanov — UP
In mid-June, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, along with six government officials, discussed the possibility of holding elections in the fall. According to Ukrainska Pravda, the idea was ultimately abandoned after Valeriy Zaluzhny and Kirill Budanov reportedly refused to agree not to run in the elections.
At that time, journalists report, there was also discussion about which generals needed to be persuaded not to run.
However, as noted in the Ukrayinska Pravda article, the idea of holding early elections in the fall was rejected when Zaluzhny and Budanov refused to refrain from running.
As a reminder, Zaluzhny arrived in Kyiv and outlined the main priorities for Ukraine’s diplomats.
Zaluzhny also explained why he had been criticized during his tenure as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In addition, Zaluzhny stated that he does not believe Ukraine will join NATO.
