Ukrzaliznytsia explained when trains may stop during emergencies
The rules governing railway operations during air raid alerts apply to both passengers and employees. A train may be stopped even during a “yellow” threat level, and under certain conditions, an evacuation may be ordered.
Recently, a user posted a comment on Threads asking “Ukrzaliznytsia” a question.
“Children are taught to respond to a ‘yellow’ alert, and the train is supposed to run but isn’t. Why is the law being violated?” the post reads.
Ukrzaliznytsia responded that this is “not quite true.”
“The ‘yellow’ level means that train traffic and boarding/alighting may continue,” the company clarified.
It is emphasized that this does not mean that “the train will not stop under any circumstances.”
Passengers were told that special monitoring teams from Ukrzaliznytsia are keeping an eye on the security situation.
If they detect an “immediate threat to a specific train,” then “decisions regarding its movement, stopping, and the evacuation of passengers to a safe location are made on a case-by-case basis—taking into account the current operational situation.”
“In other words, the main principle is simple: the threat level does not preclude a response to a specific aerial target,” Ukrzaliznytsia stated.
Therefore, “if there is an immediate danger to people,” Ukrzaliznytsia acts “in accordance with that danger.”
“Passenger safety always comes first,” the company concluded.
As a reminder, Ukrzaliznytsia trains have been delayed for over 16 hours due to Russian shelling.
On the night of September 16–17, Ukrzaliznytsia suspended train service 111 times due to drone threats.
On September 20, 16 Ukrzaliznytsia trains ran behind schedule, with the longest delay exceeding 15 hours. The most significant delays were reported on trains traveling from Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia to Uzhhorod, Przemyśl, Truskavets, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Chernivtsi.
