On Tuesday, September 22, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 was recorded in the Poltava region. The tremors occurred in the area of the Machukhiv community in the Poltava district.
According to the State Center for Seismology, the seismic event was recorded at 12:49:45 Kyiv time.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located within the Machukhiv community in Poltava District. The magnitude of the tremors was 4.2.
According to preliminary data, the source of the earthquake was located at a depth of about 3 km.
The coordinates of the epicenter were 49.57° north latitude and 34.31° east longitude.
The Main Center for Special Control classified the recorded earthquake as moderate.
The Main Center for Special Control notes that magnitude characterizes the energy released during an earthquake in the form of seismic waves. At the same time, the effects of underground tremors on the surface depend not only on the magnitude but also, in particular, on the depth of the epicenter.
