An Oschadbank cash collector recounted the details of the robbery in Hungary
Gennady Kuznetsov, a member of Oschadbank’s cash collection team, provided details at a briefing on March 24, 2026, regarding the detention of Ukrainian workers by Hungarian law enforcement officers on the Budapest ring road.
Kuznetsov spoke about this at a briefing on March 24, according to the European Parliament.
According to him, from the moment of their forcible capture until their return to Ukraine at the “Zahony–Chop” border crossing, the team was kept in handcuffs and with bags over their heads. The official reported the use of coercive medical measures, specifically two injections of an unknown substance, after which he fell ill and required hospitalization to save his life.
The Hungarian side ignored the detainees’ requests for consular support and legal counsel, falsely claiming that the Ukrainian consul had allegedly refused to meet with them. Kuznetsov emphasized that no actual investigative actions were conducted, and during deportation, documents were simply placed in the collectors’ pockets without any explanation in Ukrainian. Despite the presence of all original customs documents for the cargo in European databases, the Hungarian Anti-Terrorism Center authorities showed no interest in the legality of the transport of valuables.
The head of the NBU demonstrated how Oschadbank’s cash collectors were met at the border.
As a reminder, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga stated that the Hungarian side has yet to explain the reasons for the detention of seven Oschadbank cash collectors.
A National Bank team traveled to Budapest due to the detention of Oschadbank employees.
Hungary also accused the detained Oschadbank cash collectors of money laundering.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised Ukrainians to refrain from traveling to Hungary.
