The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a resolution establishing a Coordinating Council on internally displaced persons, maintaining ties with Ukrainians abroad, and facilitating their voluntary return to Ukraine.
The Ministry of Social Policy noted that the decision was made in light of the consequences of the full-scale war. Currently, at least 5.8 million Ukrainians are outside Ukraine, and another 4.6 million people have internally displaced person (IDP) status.
The new Coordination Council is intended to ensure cooperation between government agencies, international partners, and charitable organizations, as well as to coordinate state policy on supporting IDPs and citizens who have left the country.
In addition, the Council plans to establish separate working groups to develop proposals for improving legislation and enhancing the effectiveness of efforts in this area.
Kyiv is introducing a new assistance system for residents whose homes have been destroyed or seriously damaged as a result of Russian attacks. People are promised a one-time payment of 40,000 hryvnias for rent and subsequent monthly compensation if the restoration of their homes is delayed.
