A former tax official transferred her government-provided housing to her daughter

Officials from the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) have notified a former official of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Tax Service that she is under suspicion. According to investigators, she illegally registered a government-provided apartment in her name and then gifted it to her daughter. The losses to the state are estimated at nearly 2.9 million hryvnias.

 

Officials from the State Bureau of Investigations have notified a former official of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Tax Service that she is under suspicion. Investigators believe that the woman illegally took possession of a government-provided apartment worth nearly three million hryvnias and subsequently transferred ownership of the property to her daughter.

According to the State Bureau of Investigations, after leaving government service, the woman lost the right to use the government-provided housing. Under the law, the apartment was supposed to be returned to the state. However, according to the investigation, the former official used forged documents to register the property as private ownership.

After registering the ownership, she signed a gift agreement and transferred the apartment to her daughter. The State Bureau of Investigation notes that as a result of these actions, the property was illegally removed from state ownership. The apartment was under the administration of the State Tax Service. “As a result of these actions, the apartment, which was under the administration of the State Tax Service, was illegally removed from state ownership,” the DBR reported.

According to investigators’ estimates, the amount of damage caused to the state amounts to nearly 2.9 million hryvnias. The former official has been charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: the use of a knowingly forged document and fraudulent acquisition of property on an especially large scale. “The woman has been notified of her status as a suspect in the use of a knowingly forged document and the fraudulent misappropriation of property on an especially large scale,” law enforcement officials noted.

A pretrial investigation is currently underway. Law enforcement officials are establishing all the circumstances of the case and determining the next procedural steps. At the same time, in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine and applicable laws, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court and confirmed by a final conviction. As a reminder, the SBU detained a woman suspected of working for Russian intelligence services.
