Former Chief of the General Staff Named a Hero of Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Lieutenant General Andriy Gnativ the title of Hero of Ukraine. The head of state signed the corresponding decree on August 21.

Gnatov was honored “for personal courage and heroism demonstrated in defending Ukraine’s state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and for his selfless service to the Ukrainian people.”

Along with the title of Hero of Ukraine, the lieutenant general will be awarded the Order of the Golden Star.

Last year on Independence Day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy promoted Andriy Gnativ, who at the time headed the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to the military rank of lieutenant general. Prior to that, he held the rank of major general.

As a reminder, Commander Vladislav Polsky was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine for rescuing two seriously wounded soldiers.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the corresponding decree on August 19.

We previously reported that the death toll from the Russian Federation’s attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region has risen to 14.
