A Russian tank commander faces trial for shelling a house and killing a civilian in the Sumy region

A Russian soldier will stand trial for ordering the shelling of a residential building in the Sumy region, which resulted in the death of a civilian.

This was reported by the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, on February 27, 2022, a unit of occupying forces stopped between the villages of Hirne and Opolonske. The tank commander ordered the crew to fire two aimed shots from the tank’s gun at a civilian house in the village of Stare Selo.

As a result of the shelling, a 61-year-old local resident sustained severe injuries and died.

The defendant is a 34-year-old Russian soldier who, at the time, was serving in the 1st Tank Army and participated in the invasion of the Sumy region.

He has already been charged, after which a warrant was issued for his arrest. The indictment has been submitted to the court.

Earlier in Rivne, a court sentenced a minor Russian agent who had planned a terrorist attack against Ukrainian servicemen to five years in prison.

As a reminder, the SBU detained a Russian strike coordinator in Chernivtsi.

The SBU also exposed a Russian intelligence network that was planning terrorist attacks using teenagers.
