A Russian tank commander faces trial for shelling a house and killing a civilian in the Sumy region
A Russian soldier will stand trial for ordering the shelling of a residential building in the Sumy region, which resulted in the death of a civilian.
This was reported by the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, on February 27, 2022, a unit of occupying forces stopped between the villages of Hirne and Opolonske. The tank commander ordered the crew to fire two aimed shots from the tank’s gun at a civilian house in the village of Stare Selo.
As a result of the shelling, a 61-year-old local resident sustained severe injuries and died.
The defendant is a 34-year-old Russian soldier who, at the time, was serving in the 1st Tank Army and participated in the invasion of the Sumy region.
He has already been charged, after which a warrant was issued for his arrest. The indictment has been submitted to the court.
