Kravchenko cited the reason for his resignation and called on the heads of NABU and SAPO to also step down from their posts

Attorney General Ruslan Kravchenko announced that he had submitted his resignation. He called on the President of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada to accept his resignation.

Kravchenko attributed his decision to the situation surrounding investigations into the leadership and staff of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the Prosecutor General, the Office of the Prosecutor General is overseeing dozens of criminal cases in which NABU and SAPO employees are being investigated for possible serious and especially serious crimes.

Kravchenko also stated that he had signed a notice of suspicion against NABU Director Semen Kryvonos. According to him, the decision is based on the materials of the criminal proceedings and the evidence gathered. Kryvonos, according to the Prosecutor General, is accused of forging official documents to obtain an unlawful benefit on an exceptionally large scale, as well as of a sham adoption, which was allegedly intended to create grounds for evading legal liability in court.

Separately, Kravchenko reported another allegation, which, according to him, concerns an individual close to SAP Director Oleksandr Klymenko. Specifically, this involves possible influence over judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court, the offer of an unlawful benefit, and aiding in evading mobilization.

The Prosecutor General linked these proceedings to Operation “Carthage.” He stated that, in his opinion, its purpose was to gain access to materials from criminal proceedings involving the heads and employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), as well as to remove Kravchenko himself from office in order to halt the adoption of procedural decisions in these cases.

Kravchenko also claims that during searches of the offices of the Prosecutor General’s Office, representatives of NABU and the SAP gained access to legally protected case materials, and some of the documents and electronic data were copied.

According to the Prosecutor General, attempts had previously been made to persuade him not to sign the notices of suspicion, including by offering guarantees of immunity. He stated that he did not agree to this and continued to issue procedural decisions.

Against this backdrop, Kravchenko announced his resignation and called on Kryvonos and Klymenko to also resign.

Thus, the Prosecutor General effectively attributed his decision to step down to the conflict surrounding the investigations into NABU and the SAPO, the pressure that, according to him, was being exerted on him, as well as the need to ensure the continued investigation of criminal cases.
